Dinner at Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar at Disney Springs is a favorite spot for me and Brandon. We love going there and getting a few drinks and just chilling. It's been a while since we've gone and had a meal there, so we were glad to make a visit recently the night before Hurricane Irma hit. Disney Springs was slated to close at 9 p.m. that evening, and most restaurants had already stopped seating guests when we got there around 6:45 p.m., so we knew the place to go. Hangar Bar. I can't tell you how grateful we were to have a decent meal before the next few days of the hurricane passed, and we were extremely thankful for each and every cast member who worked that night to feed guests.

Atmosphere

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is one of the best themed restaurants on Disney property. If you love Indiana Jones or even just adventure, you will love the Hangar Bar.Hangar Bar Seating AreaTypically, we like to sit inside the restaurant. But, when we visited, we opted to sit outside. With the impending hurricane on its way, there was a nice breeze, and the seating outside was fairly empty. We love that even on the outside the theming is just as detailed and well done.Hangar Bar CoastersOne of my favorite details are the coasters. If you visit the Hangar Bar, ask your server for a few. They have a bunch of different options, including the one above -- a nod to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and even one for Club Obi-Wan -- from Temple of Doom (and a Star Wars nod). They make for a great free souvenir too!View from Hangar Bar of WaterSitting outside, you get a great view of the Disney Springs resort area. Even before a hurricane and bad weather, you can see just how lovely the view is.

The Food

I've had a lot of people ask me if the food at the Hangar Bar is good for special diets guests. The short answer. Absolutely. That's because at the helm of the restaurant is Chef Paul. If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll recognize him as a chef who used to be at Port Orleans Resorts. He's really great at handling special dietary needs guests, so be sure to ask for him if you visit!Hangar Bar Gin & TonicsBefore we ordered our food, we also had a few drinks. Because when a hurricane is about to hit your state, you need a drink or two.Temple Tenderloin at Hangar BarBrandon and I both ordered the Temple Tenderloin which is a beef sandwich served with chimichurri bacon fries. The dish can be made both gluten free and dairy free. I had first heard about this dish from Alexis's Gluten Free Adventures and kept meaning to order it, so I was glad we did on this occasion.I have to say that both of us thought this sandwich was a real winner. For the price, the portion was huge, and the flavor was jam packed. The beef was tender and flavorful served on a Local Oven gluten free & dairy free bun. The sandwich also came with a side of au jus which was safe for me to eat and really gave the sandwich a bit of a flavor punch. The fries though were the absolute star of this dish. Both Brandon and I were raving about them. The chimichurri sauce was super flavorful and they were really well cooked. We both said we'd go and order just a side of these next time!

Overall

As always, Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is the perfect spot to get a drink and a bite to eat. Chef Paul and the team at the Hangar Bar do a great job at making quality food and drinks that can be accommodated for special diets. It really is one of my favorite places at Disney Springs and I think will continue to be for years to come.Have you been to the Hangar Bar? What do you order when you visit there?

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar -- Dinner -- Table Service -- Disney Springs

*These dining experiences took place in October and November 2015. Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeGet ready to go on an adventure fit for Indiana Jones on this epic journey into Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, located at Disney Springs. Opening in the fall of 2015, Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is the newly opened bar, aptly named and themed after the frequently trusted pilot for Indiana Jones. With a fantastic back story (check out the Disney Food Blog for more details), the Hangar, as it's often referred to, has quickly become a very popular hangout spot at Disney Springs. It's pretty surprising that I haven't blogged about it yet, as it's quickly become a favorite among my family and friends. I've been countless times and am still wowed by the level of detail throughout the lounge. When it first opened, I was pretty dubious about any dining options, especially after reading Gluten Free in Orlando's opening review which indicated a lack of gluten free options. Still, I knew it would be a great place to meet friend and enjoy a drink or two.Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeOn our first visit, I ordered the Hovito Mojito because I'm a huge mojito fan. Unfortunately, this version couldn't live up to others I've had on Disney property, especially my favorite - the African Starr Mint Mojito, found at Sanaa.Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeLately, I've been enjoying the gin and tonics served there. I love the glasses these are served in. They are actually slightly tilted (even before you've had any alcohol!).Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeOn one of my visits, a group of us had a variety of drinks that included the Scottish Professor, the Safari Sangria and a Gin and Tonic. Overall, everyone loves the drinks there - even if they still don't have the cute souvenir glasses available. One day, I'm getting an Indy inspired drink in a monkey head...Jock Lindsey's Hangar Lounge Snacks of RaThere are several gluten free options, and the menu has changed since last I ordered food here, so keep in mind that there may be others as well (including the new shrimp flatbread). The Snacks of Ra, made of African salads and dips, can be served with Udi's Gluten Free pizza crust. This was very nice, especially considering all the dips are naturally gluten free and dairy free. The favorite salads and dips have to be the curry chicken and the bean and pea hummus. They were all very tasty and unique, and I would definitely order this again.Jock Lindsey's Hangar Lounge Brody's BratsBrody's Brats is another gluten free and dairy free dish without modifications. I thought the brats were nicely spiced (very mild and not overly spicy), with the cornichons and mustard being great additions. I wasn't too jazzed about the pickled slaw but would have loved to have seen less brats and a bread component added. No one in our group was a big fan of this.Jock Lindsey's Hangar Lounge Good DatesThe Good Dates are also gluten free but not dairy free. They do contain goat cheese.Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeWhen you visit the Hangar, check out all the details. There's even a newspaper framed with an entire back-story for the lounge. As a librarian, I loved seeing old card catalogs being repurposed. And, if you're an Indiana Jones fan, you'll love all the hidden nods to the films; we've noticed things like the voodoo dolls from the Temple of Doom to prop replicas and more. We've spent hours in here and are still finding new things.Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeOn our very first visit, we joked that the bar seemed so authentic to the Indiana Jones films that we half expected Indy himself to pop in for a nightcap. Little did we know that Indy really would make an appearance that first night.Nearing closing, Indy strolled in, saddled up to the bar with his trademark fedora hat and trusty whip at his side to order a drink. We initially thought it was a part of the lounge experience, but the look on the bartender's face told otherwise! Turns out, a guest who had been to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party popped in post-party for a drink. Well played, faux Indy, well played!Jock Lindsey's Hangar LoungeJock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is definitely a great place to visit. We often pop in for a quick drink while heading to a movie at the AMC Disney Springs. It's the perfect spot with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and great theming. It's also owned and operated by Disney, so you'll actually get to speak to a chef if you have special dietary needs, which is another nice bonus.I'm looking forward to seeing the offerings here evolve and, of course, enjoying a cold beverage with Dr. Jones.Have you been to Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar? What did you think of it?
