View from our booth...such a glamorous location! |
Lights! Camera! Action! Welcome back to the glamorous Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. This has become a recent favorite of mine, and I was happy to head back here again for their famous cobb salad. It was a perfect meal for a hot summer day.On this particular occasion, I brought my mom and stepdad with me as they had never been before. They also wanted to check out the cobb salad. Once seated, we waited for quite a long time (the longest I've ever waited in this location) for a server, let alone a chef. It was reasonably busy in there, but I'd been during busier times, so I was surprised at the lack of service. The server finally came over and said that he was waiting for the chef to come which is why he didn't come over. Not perhaps the best thing to do, considering it was hot and we sure could have used a beverage, but no matter. At least the chef came out promptly after that and we were in business! Since I knew what I wanted, there wasn't much discussion about the menu. I ordered the cobb salad with no blue cheese. The chef also asked me if I wanted to have the GNI brand rolls with olive oil. Since they know how to properly heat them at this location, I was happy to get them.

While we waited for our drinks and rolls, we enjoyed looking around at the various caricatures. My mom was trying to find Lucille Ball (one of her favs), but we couldn't find her. It is really cool to see all of the unique decor and it really feels like you are sitting in an old Hollywood restaurant.
The chef was extra generous with the rolls that day, so I had a lot to eat. I've never turned down a carb! They are very good with the extra virgin olive oil and thankfully, they stay nice and warm.
I can eat a lot of bread, but I couldn't make it through 4 rolls! |
Up next were our salads. Yum!! As usual, this was excellent. As someone with Crohn's disease, I often have to avoid or limit my amount of fresh fruits and veggies and salad especially. But, the great news is that because this is so finely chopped up, my stomach doesn't freak out when I eat it. That is excellent for me because I often crave salads and this one is one of my hands down favorites of all time. I love the avocado and the turkey and I especially love the dressing (which is naturally GF/DF!).
Delicious Cobb Salad |
In addition to the cobb salad, the Brown Derby can also make lots of other great dishes gluten free & dairy free. It's a wonderful location for special diets. Overall, I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. It continues to be one of my favs. I really adore the salad and it's reasonably priced too ($15). In the future, I hope to come back and try out some of the other dishes and seeing what wonderful dishes the chefs can whip up! This is a great place for a special occasion too!A solid 8 out of 10 for this visit!
